TASTING NOTES:
No, this is NOT a Brunello! But it’s close. Very close. Think of it as a Rosso di Montalcino, although it is not. Pertimali is a very fine Brunello producer, and this wine is made from the same Sangiovese Grosso clone that is used in Brunello. It can’t be labeled as Rosso di Montalcino because technically it comes from the Maremma, not Montalcino. That being said, it comes from the most inland part of the Maremma, only 20 kilometers from Montalcino. A relatively new Tuscan wine region, Montecucco was recently given DOCG status. Whereas the prices for other Tuscan reds have increased in recent years, Montecucco is still relatively unknown, so its wines are very affordable. This is one of the best and is a very impressive wine indeed. It drinks well with airing now, but it will improve for a few years.
Intense aromas of blackberries, candied plum, herbs and spices. Fresh and fruity on the palate, with earthy mineral notes. Fine tannins lead to a long and silky finish.
