TASTING NOTES:
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Villemaurine explodes from the glass with powerful notes of stewed plums, Black Forest cake and blackberry preserves with underlying hints of Chinese five spice, violets, espresso and cardamom with a waft of sandalwood. Full-bodied, rich, ripe and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, the palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves, framed by velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long with layers of opulent exotic spices.

A perfumed nose of blackberries, blackcurrants, chocolate, undergrowth, sandalwood, sage and spice box. Pure fruit. Medium-to full-bodied with fine-grained, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Plush texture with great balance. Long, delicious finish. Drink from 2025.

Wisps of coffee and chocolate shavings, this has depth and grip and is an extremely enjoyable glass of wine that is clearly built to last, with walls and ripples of raspberry fruit. The fruit almost seems sweet because of this edge of chocolate, but the austerity of limestone closes its fist on the end of play. Hubert de Boüard consulting. Just as good as the excellent 2018, perhaps even bettering it. Tasted twice, a week apart. Drinking Window 2027 – 2044.
